Chamera Lake

Chamera Lake is a boating point located at Taleru. It is one of the most scenic sight of Dalhousie. This site offers to explore the most beautiful backwaters of Chamba Valley. The Chamera Dam Lake is one of the modern engineering marvel of the state of Himachal Pradesh, as also provides an opportunity to have an exciting boating trip around the magnificent lake.

Chamera Lake, Dalhousie

Chamera Lake is located at an altitude of 4080m from sea level. In Chamba District, the Chamera Lake is formed by Chamera Dam on the Ravi River at Chourah. The site is easily accessible from Chamba - Pathankot highway. Water Sports activities are available at Chamera Lake. Chamera Lake, a scenic highlight of Chamba District, is 25-35 km from the famous hill resort of Dalhousie. An artificial lake, it is the reservoir of Chamera Hydroelectric Project built over the Ravi River. The road connecting the Chamera Dam goes along the Lake to Bhalei Temple and the famous thick forests of Bhandal valley. Himachal Pradesh Department of Tourism has set up a water sports sub-center near the lake to encourage water sports activity at the lake. The lake also offers ample opportunities for boating and fishing.

The Dam site enjoy very sharp fluctuations in climate between April to June. During the day it can get very hot (around 35°c) though by the evening, temperatures fall to between 18 to 20°c. Between July and September the area receives moderate to heavy rainfall and temperatures vary below 20 to 26°c during the day and 8 to 12°c at night time. The project area enjoys a maximum of around 15°c between October and December and sometimes the temperature are known to fall below freezing point.

Chamera Lake provides irrigational facilities to the many villages that are scattered in and around Chamera Lake. For these villagers this lake is a source of sustenance with its natural water reserves. This lake is situated amidst verdant pine forests and lustrous valleys.
