Dainkund is a 10km from Dalhousie at an altitude of 2745m. The whole mountain side is full of millions of white wild Daisies. On a clear day this tall peak affords a birds eye view of the hills, verdant valleys and the Beas, Ravi and Chenab River threading their silvery passage down to the plains.  This is the tallest peak around Dalhousie and a popular trek (starting from Kalatop) in Dalhousie.

Dainkund Valley, Dalhousie

ValleyDian Kund is the most facinating place in the entire area. The ascent to the Dainkund begins after a turn from the Lakkar Mandi. About 6kms drive from Lakkar Mandi takes one an Indian Air Force Barrier, where the cars are parked. The top of the hill is unfortunately occupied by an Indian Air Force establishment. It is believed that in old days there were witches living there who used to trouble the villagers to no end. Because of this Dain Kund is also known with the name of Witch's Pond. If one has time, one can trek to a pass called 'Jot' which is about 3hrs along the same ridge.

The amazing experience of a pliable trudge in a beautiful ambience is quite spectacular, which provides an enthralling freshness to everyone. The sweet sound of the gentle breeze puffing through the trees makes a musical serenade and so Daikund is popularly known as the singing hill. Amazing sight of the stunning valley coupled with the glittering rivers flowing through the crisscross riverbeds, makes trekking to Daikund a must experienced spectacle.

Pholani Devi Temple

From top of Daikund, left turn will fetch oneself to the Pholani Devi Temple. The weird and wonderful fact about this temple is that, except a trident nothing can be found in the temple premises.

Pholani Devi Temple in Dainkund, Dalhousie

A unique characteristic of this temple is the absence of the image of any deity. The holy trinity of  Hindu mythology is worshiped in this temple. She is supposed to be an incarnation of Kali Mata and arose at the site from a stone. The split stone is still near the temple. She killed all the Witches and saved the villagers who since worship her.
