Fort Complex and Palaces

Approached by a multi arched bridge over the Betwa River the complex is set on an island in the Betwa River and is surrounded by fortified walls. The complex has three palaces set in an open quadrangle.

Jahangir Mahal

The most spectacular of these is the Jahangir Mahal, built by Raja Bir Singh Deo to commemorate the visit of Mughal Emperor Jahangir to Orchha in 1606. It is a tiered palace crowned by graceful chhatris.
